Our Assistant Head & SENDCo, Mrs Thorne, works with children, parents/carers, staff and other professionals such as speech therapists and educational psychologists, to make sure that the SEND children at Charlton always receive the best and most appropriate teaching that will allow them to overcome their specific barriers to learning and make good progress.
We believe that all children should be given the support that they need so that they can fulfil their potential and flourish! ‘SEND’ covers a huge breadth of needs and as such, we place a vital emphasis on knowing the individual child, alongside working with the family and building trusted relationships. Some of our children with SEND need extra support, and we provide this in many ways. Some examples of how we do this include the following: scaffolding, explicit instruction, pre and post teaching of new vocabulary or concepts, fine motor skill activities, additional reading or phonics sessions.
At Charlton, children’s wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. With any support that we put in place for a child, we always ensure that their wellbeing and a strong sense of inclusion remain a priority.
We hold regular SEND family meetings and frequently invite different organisations in to talk about a range of topics.
There is a lot of thought and planning that goes into meeting the needs of children with SEND. Take a look at our full documents to help you understand exactly what it is that we do for children with particular needs at Charlton.
If you have a questions about SEND please ask your class teacher or contact Mrs Thorne via the school office.
