  • Religious Education

At Charlton, our RE curriculum is underpinned by our four curriculum drivers: Wonder, Knowledge, Discovery and Responsibility:

The teaching of RE at Charlton enables all children to learn about and from religion and non-religious world views. Our curriculum provides opportunities to reflect, respond and appreciate the way that religion and non-religious world views shape life and behaviours. It will aid children’s ability to make reasoned and informed judgements, address common misconceptions and enhance their personal, moral, social, cultural and spiritual development.

The children will learn RE through a clear, coherent and progressive curriculum, following the Oxfordshire Agreed Syllabus and using the Oxford Diocesan Board of Education RE planning units based around a 'Big Question'.

In England, parents and carers have the right to withdraw their children from Religious Education. This right of withdrawal exists for all pupils in all types of schools. Parents and carers also have the right to withdraw their child from part of RE and can do so without giving any explanation.
